How investing works in Mexico
Shares in Mexico trade on the Bolsa Mexicana de Valores. To buy them you need a broker that is able to trade on that exchange, and you pay in MXN.
The regulator is the CNBV. It licenses brokers and publishes the rules for listed companies, so checking that a broker is registered with it is the first step.
Before you invest, read the rules for foreign investors in Mexico: some markets limit who may buy, and some restrict how money leaves the country. Our guide on foreign investor rules covers what to check.
Prices are quoted in MXN. If you live in another currency, a move in the exchange rate can change your return even when the share price does not move. See currency risk for foreign stocks.
